Job summary

The City of La Porte is seeking an entry-level Equipment Operator to drive light to moderate construction equipment and support street maintenance activities. You will work under supervision, perform tasks like patching streets, mowing, and drainage upkeep, and ensure safe operation of assigned vehicles in daily city workloads.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Texas Driver’s License, and the ability to obtain a Texas Class B CDL within three months.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Some experience operating light construction equipment is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain Texas Class B CDL within three months.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate light to moderate construction equipment on routine assignments.
  • Repair and patch streets by hand-sweeping and loading asphalt.
  • Work with a small street patching crew to complete work orders.
  • Operate tractors and mowers for drainage maintenance.
  • May perform curb, gutter, and sidewalk repairs.
  • Inspect ditches and shoulders for weed removal and herbicide application.
  • Operate trucks used in mosquito control and other city operations.
  • Perform storm drain maintenance and related duties.
