Job summary

City of Hampton is hiring a Concrete Finisher III to prepare, maintain, and repair concrete projects across the community. You’ll gain hands-on experience in construction and maintenance while contributing to quality results, working as part of a dedicated team.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, five years of concrete experience, and a Virginia CDL‑B within 180 days. This is a safety‑sensitive, full‑time position with opportunities for growth and veteran/spouse friendly benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of full-time concrete construction, maintenance, and repair experience, including reading and interpreting engineering plans for curb and gutter, sidewalks, and roadways.
• Must possess a State of Virginia CDL Class B or obtain CDL Class B within 180 days of employment.
• This position is safety sensitive and subject to drug testing.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of five (5) years of full-time equivalent experience in concrete construction, maintenance, and repair work, to include reading and interpreting engineering plans for curb and gutter, sidewalks, and roadways, and planning curb and gutter layout from information from survey grade stakes and cut sheets or closely related experience.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
• Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or must obtain the CDL Class B within 180 days of employment.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
