Job summary

City of Asheville is seeking a Laborer in the Public Works Department to assist the vac-con truck operator with daily cleaning of stormwater catch basins, pipes, and culverts within street rights-of-way.

Duties include manual labor, following safety procedures, operating machinery, assisting in street and stormwater projects, and processing departmental documentation. Requires a high school diploma or GED and a NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of work experience in maintenance, construction, or building trades.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Performing manual labor in support of public works projects.
• Following established safety procedures and utilizing safety equipment.
• Operating a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects.
• Assisting in streets and sidewalk projects, as well as stormwater drainage system construction and maintenance.
• Assisting during emergency weather events and other activities, as assigned.
• Processing documentation associated with department/division operations.
• Performing other related duties as required.
