Job summary

City of Champlin is seeking a Public Works Public Service Worker to maintain streets, parks, and public facilities. You will perform snow plowing, ice control, sign maintenance, crack sealing, and turf care, while safely operating a variety of city equipment.

Strong customer service and safety are essential. The role interacts with the public and businesses to ensure quality service, with a preventive maintenance focus across municipal buildings and grounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid MN Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.
• On-call availability with 1 hour or less response time.
• Occasionally work nights and weekends for city events or emergencies.
• Candidates should be able to operate and maintain municipal equipment.
• Experience with public works software (Cartegraph, GIS) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Snow plowing and ice control on sidewalks, streets, parking lots, and trails.
• Install, repair, and maintain traffic signs, barricades, and street markings.
• Crack sealing, patching, and sweeping of streets, trails, and parking lots.
• Operate and transport materials with light/heavy equipment as needed.
• Maintain irrigation systems in parks and public spaces.
• Mow, fertilize, seed, and maintain turf and plants; care for trees and shrubs.
• Maintain municipal buildings and grounds.
• Safely operate a range of equipment including loaders, backhoes, skid steers, mowers, and trucks.
• Respond to storm sewer backup requests and assist in maintenance.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
