Job summary

Town of Apple Valley is seeking a motivated worker to learn and perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of public works infrastructure, including storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems.

Under direct supervision, you assist with routine inspections, equipment operation, and emergency responses while developing the skills to perform duties independently.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and one year of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of underground utilities.
• Experience in wastewater or collections is highly desired.
• Must obtain CWEA Grade 1 and Class B CDL with endorsements within 12 months.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision, learns and performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of Town public works infrastructure, including, storm drainage systems, and sanitary sewer systems. Assists with routine inspections, maintenance activities, equipment operation, and emergency response activities while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform assigned duties independently; and performs related work as required.

Requirements:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of underground utilities. Experience working in wastewater or collections is highly desired.

• Valid California class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance.
• Must be able to obtain a acquire a CWEA Grade 1 certificate in Collections and valid California Class B driver’s license with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsements within twelve (12) months of hire with the Town.
• Must be available to be on-call on a rotating basis. A thirty (30)-minute response time is required and includes responding to after hour emergencies at times.
• Position will be required to work in and around wastewater collection system facilities and environments, including exposure to wastewater.
