Job summary

Apple Valley is seeking an entry-level Public Works Utilities Worker to assist in the construction, maintenance, and operation of town infrastructure including storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems. Under supervision, you will support inspections, maintenance tasks, equipment operation, and emergency responses while gaining skills to work independently.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of related experience; wastewater experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of underground utilities.
• Experience working in wastewater or collections is highly desired.
• Must be available to be on-call on a rotating basis with a 30-minute response time.

Responsibilities

• Duties include construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of Town public works infrastructure including storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems.
• Assist with routine inspections, maintenance activities, equipment operation, and emergency response while developing knowledge to perform duties independently.

Job description

Under direct supervision, learns and performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of Town public works infrastructure, including, storm drainage systems, and sanitary sewer systems. Assists with routine inspections, maintenance activities, equipment operation, and emergency response activities while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform assigned duties independently; and performs related work as required.

Requirements:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of underground utilities. Experience working in wastewater or collections is highly desired.

• Valid California class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance.
• Must be able to obtain a acquire a CWEA Grade 1 certificate in Collections and valid California Class B driver’s license with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsements within twelve (12) months of hire with the Town.
• Must be available to be on-call on a rotating basis. A thirty (30)-minute response time is required and includes responding to after hour emergencies at times.
• Position will be required to work in and around wastewater collection system facilities and environments, including exposure to wastewater.
