City of Augusta is seeking a Mechanic I/Truck Driver II to join the Public Works Department. The role combines hands-on vehicle maintenance with the operation of heavy trucks and equipment for winter road operations.

The position requires a High School diploma, a Maine CDL Class B or higher, and at least two years of automotive/heavy equipment experience plus one year of heavy-vehicle operation. A valid Maine MV inspection license must be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• A valid State of Maine CDL Class B or higher license is required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an automotive or heavy equipment mechanic.
• One (1) year of experience operating heavy trucks.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid State of Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection License (A & D) within six (6) months of hire.
• All CDL-equipped employees must participate in the City’s drug and alcohol testing program per FMCSA rules.

Responsabilités

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, servicing, troubleshooting and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Assist senior mechanics with more complex tasks as needed.
• Operate commercial vehicles and equipment during winter operations (snow plowing, sanding, etc.).
• Support roadway operations as part of Public Works.
