Job summary

The City of Augusta's Public Works Department is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator II to support road construction, maintenance, and winter operations. This role operates a range of heavy equipment and Class B trucks, with potential onsite leadership in the foreman's absence, ensuring safe and efficient project completion.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a Maine CDL Class B or higher, and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• A valid State of Maine CDL Class B or higher license is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience operating heavy equipment listed in the job description.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and Class B trucks for road construction, maintenance, paving, excavation, grading, and material handling.
• Contribute to winter operations, including plowing, sanding, and snow/ice removal.
• Support activities at the solid waste facility and operate equipment like graders, excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and landfill compactors.
• Provide onsite leadership to help maintain productivity when a foreman is unavailable.
