Job summary

The City of Manhattan seeks a Maintenance Technician to join its Public Works teams. You will contribute to street, traffic, stormwater, wastewater, and water distribution maintenance, while supporting emergency responses and seasonal work.

Starting pay ranges from $21.60 to $25.93 per hour, with DOQ, and a Monday–Friday day shift. A valid CDL and a HS diploma are required, with further certifications encouraged.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years’ relevant experience in construction or related area.

Responsibilities

• Operates single/tandem axle trucks, heavy equipment, and various power/hand tools.
• Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Assists in securing work areas and maintaining safe worksites by placement of appropriate warning devices while wearing special protective devices.
• Answers and responds to public and staff inquiries regarding related division.
• Maintains records regarding work completed.
• Works with contractors and developers on repairs and maintenance.
• Attends meetings and training as required.
• Repairs asphalt and concrete pavement in Street duties.
• Places new and repairs sign and pavement markings in Traffic.
• Conducts inspections and field work related to stormwater management.
• Performs snow and ice removal, spring clean-up, flood mitigation and levee maintenance.
• Performs preventative maintenance on the city’s sewer gathering system by operating line maintenance equipment.
• Repairs and maintains pipelines, valves, fire hydrants, water services, meters, and other related equipment.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license

CDL Class A with airbrakes and tanker endorsement

Work Zone certification
