Job summary

The City of Manhattan Kansas is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support Public Works/Public Utilities. The role assists in all related maintenance and ensures public health and safety.

It involves performing repairs, operating trucks and equipment, and maintaining records as part of a crew. Responsibilities include working in Street, Traffic, Stormwater, Wastewater, and Water divisions, handling snow removal, paving maintenance, and emergency call-backs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Obtain and maintain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrakes and tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment (Class B for Traffic division).
• Work Zone certification for Traffic division (Obtain within 24 months of employment).
• Two years’ relevant experience in construction or related area is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates single/tandem axle trucks, heavy equipment and power/hand tools.
• Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Maintains safe worksites by using warning devices and protective gear.
• Responds to inquiries from public and staff about the division.
• Keeps records of work completed and coordinates with contractors.
