Job summary

City of Pullman is seeking a Maintenance and Operations Superintendent to lead the Public Works Maintenance and Operations Division. This mid-level management role reports to the Public Works Director and supervises staff, budgets, and safety/compliance initiatives.

The successful candidate will coordinate with multiple city managers and external partners to implement short- and long-term work programs for streets, water distribution, and wastewater systems, while ensuring operational efficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public administration, engineering, construction management, accounting or equivalent.
• Two+ years of increasingly responsible experience in utility maintenance and operations, including at least four years in a management role.
• Washington State WDM 3 certificate (preferred); Cross Connection Control Specialist (preferred); Wastewater Treatment Operator (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Manages and supervises the maintenance and operations divisions of the Public Works department, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management.
• Coordinates daily work activities: prioritizes tasks, monitors progress, and provides technical guidance to staff.
• Administers the assigned budget, monitors expenditures, and makes adjustments to meet budget goals.
• Ensures compliance with regulations, safety policies, and program standards; coordinates with other departments and governing bodies.
• Represents the City in partnerships and at meetings with community groups and external agencies.
