Job summary

Unified Government of Athens‑Clarke County is seeking a Public Works Inspector to oversee subdivision street construction and storm drainage projects. You will monitor daily site activities, inspect contractor work, generate project cost estimates, and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and ACC ordinances.

Responsibilities include post-construction inspections, maintaining records, and coordinating safety measures and permits.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with two years of roadway construction/inspection experience or related fields.
Must obtain Erosion and Sediment Control Advanced Fundamentals Level 1B Certification within 6 months of employment.
Must obtain National Safety Council D.O.T. Flagging Certification within 6 months of employment.
Must possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Georgia.

Responsibilities

Inspect ongoing Transportation and Public Works projects for quality and conformance with plans and contracts.
Conduct post-construction inspections according to approved plans and standards.
Maintain inspection records, logs, notices to comply, and related reports.
Coordinate safety measures, traffic control, and permits as required by regulations.
Prepare cost estimates for public improvements and participate in pre/post construction meetings.
