Job summary

City of Davis is seeking a Public Works Inspector I/II to inspect capital improvement projects and utility work in the City right-of-way. You will ensure compliance with plans, codes, and regulations, and maintain daily inspection logs, payments, changes, and related documentation.

The role includes learning (I) or performing independently (II) with progression based on performance, licensing, and management approval.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of public works construction inspection principles and practices.
• Ability to inspect projects for conformance with plans, specs, and laws.
• Ability to prepare accurate records and reports.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and inspect materials for conformance to specifications.
• Attend pre-bid and pre-construction conferences to discuss inspection aspects.
• Inspect field conditions and streetworks, drainage, and utilities for hazards.
• Perform field inspections including excavations, compaction, and roadwork.
• Maintain daily inspection reports, change orders, and project records.
• Coordinate with City staff and contractors; enforce permits and safety rules.
