Job summary

City of Weslaco is seeking a full-time equipment operator to repair and maintain city streets using gear such as backhoes, loaders, excavators, and paving machines. You will also assist with ditch cleaning and project work across public rights‑of‑way within city limits.

Duties include operating street sweepers, performing routine maintenance, and responding to emergencies, with training requirements including Emergency Management and Incident Command within three months.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Three to five (3-5) years of work-related experience preferred for this position.
• Applicant must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• Emergency Management and Incident Command Training must be completed within the first three months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance.
• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, front end loader, excavator, dump truck, paving machine, motor grader, street sweeper) for public works projects.
• Use hand tools (shovels, weed eaters, chainsaws) to clear debris and maintain rights-of-way.
• Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment and trucks.
• Follow supervisor guidance and work independently with instruction.
• Respond to emergency situations as necessary.
• Work outdoors on a variety of public works projects with safety precautions.
