Job summary

City of Laredo seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform maintenance and excavation work, operating backhoes, graders, loaders, and other heavy equipment to install and repair water lines and street infrastructure.

The role is outdoors with construction site duties, physical labor, and safety responsibilities. Requires at least three years of experience and a Texas Driver License; a Texas CDL (Class A or B) must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience as a heavy equipment operator.
• Experience operating backhoes, graders, and loaders is preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver License; out-of-state license requires Texas license within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries and assists lower level heavy equipment operators.
• Operates backhoe, graders, and loaders to install, replace, and maintain streets and water lines.
• Cuts and fits pipes to install or repair water lines; installs or replaces manholes, valves, tees, bends, and crosses.
• Raises, lowers, or moves water lines as needed.
• Removes sludge from treatment plants using injector tractor and monitors pumps.
• Performs basic maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Operates front end loader to collect debris and assists with digging, mowing, and trimming.
• Assists other City Departments in emergencies.
