Job summary

The City of Mount Vernon is hiring a Field Supervisor to oversee maintenance and repair of streets, water, and sewer systems, and parks across the city. You will supervise field crews, assign work, monitor safety, and ensure projects meet standards while coordinating equipment and materials with the Public Works Department.

Qualifications

• Requires two years of progressively responsible work experience in public works and/or water/sewer-related field.
• Requires experience in supervising skilled and unskilled employees engaged in underground construction.
• Requires knowledge of modern construction, maintenance, and repair practices and methods in a water distribution and/or sewer collection system.
• Requires a valid Class D driver’s license with the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment.
• Requires the ability to pass a background and security check.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics.
• Ability to work in inclement weather.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise field crews and coordinate field operations for streets, water, and sewer systems.
• Assign daily work, monitor progress, and ensure safety and compliance.
• Maintain operational records and assist planning and project activities.
• Assist department leadership with personnel oversight and equipment planning.
• Interact with City Manager, Director of Public Works, or Assistant Director of Public Works; on call status.
