Job summary

City of Goldsboro is seeking a field inspector to verify capital improvement and construction projects comply with approved plans and standards. This role interfaces with engineering, contractors, and utility teams to ensure safe, efficient project delivery.

Responsibilities include preparing daily reports, reviewing plans, coordinating site visits, and interpreting city policies. A strong emphasis on accuracy, communication, and adherence to OHSA and local regulations is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months of full-time field experience in civil engineering design, construction, inspection or maintenance and operations for street, drainage, water and/or wastewater systems.
• Experience with capital improvement projects and construction documentation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspects capital improvement project construction sites for compliance with construction documents and mandated standards.
• Reviews proposed construction plans and specifications and provides written comments/corrections.
• Prepares daily inspection reports; maintains files and records, construction plans record drawings.
• Serves as liaison between engineering services, construction services, and other utility department teams.
• Meets with contractors to review construction progress, specifications, and contract drawings.
• Assures trenching/shoring and traffic control procedures are being followed.
• Meets with City staff to coordinate safe and thorough shutdowns.
• Answers inquiries from the general public regarding assigned projects.
• Attends pre-construction and project coordination meetings to review project expectations and construction progress.
• Interprets, explains and enforces city policies and procedures regarding technical standards, specifications, and ordinances.
