Job summary

City of Bay City, Michigan seeks an Engineering Technician to support the City’s Capital Improvement Program and Transportation Asset Management Plan. You will perform field and office tasks, inspect construction, coordinate projects, layout sites, and assist in design work and reporting.

Ideal candidates have CAD/GIS experience, are able to supervise consultants or contractors when needed, and can manage multiple assignments under deadlines.

Qualifications

• Drafting techniques and CAD proficiency required.
• Experience in construction project inspection and field decisions.
• Ability to read engineering plans and interpret specs.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspection on construction projects including site layout, measurements, materials testing, and pay estimates.
• Coordinates with consultants, utilities, stakeholders and contractors for project progress meetings.
• Performs elementary civil engineering design related to public works infrastructure using survey data and CAD tools.
• Maintains GIS information and assists in planning, budgeting and reporting of project activities.
• Communicates with citizens and stakeholders regarding capital improvement programs and project progress.
