Job summary

Berkeley County (SC) Government is seeking an engineering leader to direct day-to-day operations, oversee budgets, and supervise staff within the Engineering Department. The role requires a PE license and a strong background in civil/environmental engineering, with experience in capital projects and public interfaces.

The position emphasizes policy implementation, interdepartmental collaboration, and ensuring compliance with county standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Six years of supervisory experience or equivalent education/experience.
• SC Professional Engineering (PE) license required.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, direction and management for day-to-day operations of the department.
• Implements policies, rules, regulations and procedures of Berkeley County.
• Prepares budget requests and monitors the department’s approved budget.
• Reviews and approves plans for private development and BCWS capital projects.
• Represents BCWS at public meetings and public hearings.
