Job summary

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Engineering Department is hiring an Assistant City Engineer. This is a professional engineering and administrative position.

This position requires strong Engineering skills and personnel management in the office and in the field. The Assistant City Engineer assists the City Engineer with department operations and is responsible for overseeing the management of citywide infrastructure construction programs, consisting of coordinating efforts

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in civil engineering, construction, or related field.
• MA Class D Driver's License required.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, GIS, Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and technical literature.

Responsibilities

• Staff development and training for Departmental functions.
• Lead planning, organization, and directing office and field operations for construction projects designed in-house.
• Prepare contract documents with plans and specs.
• Perform highway geometry, pavement design, and drainage calculations.
• Coordinate with State agencies and private contractors for construction services.
• Develop and implement traffic management plans for highway projects.
• Oversee field survey operations and CAD drafting.
• Review subdivision plans and building permits for engineering approval.
• Ensure compliance with City/State standards and health and safety policies.
