Job summary

City of Hampton is seeking an Equipment Operator III to operate heavy-duty motorized and automotive equipment in drainage maintenance. You will repair storm water pipes, haul construction materials, maintain rights of way, and perform heavy ditch maintenance as part of our Public Works infrastructure.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, two years of related experience, a valid driver's license or CDL Class A within 180 days, and the ability to pass a background check.

As an Equipment Operator III in Drainage Maintenance you will operate one or more types of specialized, complex heavy-duty motorized and automotive equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s public works infrastructure. You will be expected to repair and replace storm water pipes, clean out half pipe, haul construction material, maintain right of ways, and conduct heavy ditch maintenance and repair. Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
• Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in equipment operation or closely related experience.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
• Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or a valid driver’s license and obtain a State of Virginia CDL Class A within 180 days of employment.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
