Job summary

The Town of Sharon is seeking an experienced Superintendent of Public Works to lead the department, oversee essential municipal infrastructure, and guide long-range planning. Reporting to the Town Administrator, you will manage a diverse team and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and agencies.

The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership, accountability, and a commitment to high‑quality public service, including emergency operations as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field with substantial progressively responsible municipal public works experience.
• Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in municipal public works, construction, maintenance or engineering preferred.
• Massachusetts Driver’s License required; PE license and Grade IV Water Operator License desirable.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations, personnel, budgets, and long-range planning.
• Oversee infrastructure maintenance, construction, engineering, and capital projects.
• Manage contracts, procurement, competitive bidding, and consultants.
• Coordinate with Town departments, contractors, engineers, and federal/state agencies.
• Pursue grants and other funding opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.
• Represent the Town at public meetings and respond to inquiries from the public and media.
• Provide leadership during emergencies and outside normal business hours as needed.
