Job summary

The Town of Sharon, MA is seeking an experienced Superintendent of Public Works to lead the department responsible for roads, water, utilities, parks, cemeteries, buildings and equipment.

The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership, budgeting, and project management, guiding day-to-day operations and long-range infrastructure planning, while representing the Town at meetings and coordinating with agencies. Salary range FY 2027: $130,250–$157,750.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field with substantial municipal public works experience.
• Ten years of progressively responsible municipal public works, construction, maintenance, or engineering experience.
• Massachusetts Driver’s License required.
• Professional Engineer license and Grade IV Water Operators License desirable.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations, personnel, budgets, and long-range planning.
• Overseeing infrastructure maintenance, construction, engineering, and capital projects.
• Managing contracts, procurement, competitive bidding, and consultants.
• Coordinating with Town departments, contractors, engineers, and federal/state agencies.
• Pursuing grants and other funding opportunities.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.
• Representing the Town at public meetings and responding to inquiries.
• Providing leadership during emergencies and outside normal business hours as needed.
