Job summary

Jefferson County Government is seeking a Civil Engineer Temporary Intern to assist the Civil Engineer with environmental, water, sewer, street and other public works projects. The role involves CAD drafting, traffic studies, and preparing bid packages under supervision, with occasional early hours and background checks.

The intern will maintain logs, analyze field data, and support reports and progress estimates while learning county processes and applicable laws.

Qualifications

• Pursuing civil/transportation degree.
• Must have a valid Class E driver’s license.
• Strong math skills including algebra, geometry and calculus.
• Ability to communicate with officials and the public.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing bid packages, project planning and monitoring costs.
• Perform traffic counts and traffic studies.
• Assist in preparing as-built records and changes for maintenance programs.
• Maintain daily project activity logs and prepare status reports.
• Perform CAD drafting of engineer designs.
• Review project specs and coordinate with the Deputy Director on assistance needed.
• Prepare reports detailing tests and calculate field notes for quantities and progress estimates.
• Survey project sites to obtain topographical details.
• Research records/maps for typical engineering data.
