Job summary

The Town of Andover seeks a civil engineer to develop construction plans and specifications, perform field surveys, draft layouts, and supervise the construction of water, sewer, drainage and roadway projects under the Town Engineer.

You will meet with residents, Town staff and boards to explain policies, review private/public plans for code compliance, maintain and update department maps (GIS coordinates), and supervise DPW crews and private contractors on site across town and nearby areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, with knowledge of policies, standards and procedures.
• 3 years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent.
• Public sector civil engineering and surveying knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop construction plans and specifications including field survey, drafting, and construction layout.
• Oversee and inspect public and private construction projects and review plans for compliance.
• Meet with town staff, engineers, contractors and the public to explain policies and procedures.
• Maintain and update department records and maps, including GIS coordinates.
• Mark out utilities and inspect private sites for compliance with codes and DPW specs.
• Supervise DPW and private contractor work crews.
• Travel within town and to neighboring towns as required.
