Job summary

Pierce County seeks an Assistant County Engineer to lead the Planning and Public Works engineering teams, guiding major capital programs and coordinating with regional and state partners to enhance the South Puget Sound road system.

Reporting to the County Engineer, you will supervise professional staff and contribute to long-range transportation planning, budgeting, and policy development to keep Pierce County roads safe and reliable for residents and visitors.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in civil or environmental engineering.
• Ten years of relevant experience in civil/environmental engineering management.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate programs and projects assigned to the Office of the County Engineer division with other departments and divisions.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to professional and technical staff.
• Prepare and oversee the six-year transportation improvement plan.
• Develop and monitor program performance goals and metrics aligned with strategic initiatives.
• Assist in preparing and oversight of annual operating and capital budgets.
