Job summary

Island County seeks a County Engineer to plan, organize, direct and control engineering, road maintenance, land acquisitions, and right-of-way programs. You will supervise senior engineers and manage budgets, compliance, and long-range planning.

Reporting to the Public Works Director, you will develop and oversee transportation improvement plans, infrastructure projects, and environmental compliance while coordinating with multiple departments and the Board of Island County Commissioners.

Qualifications

• BS degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Must be a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Washington at time of hire.
• Ten years in professional engineering; preferably in County engineering projects.
• Minimum of 5 years senior level engineering, management and supervisory experience.
• 5 years of responsible experience in utilities systems administration.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct and control activities in engineering and road maintenance.
• Supervise Assistant County Engineer, Transportation Planner, Maintenance/Roads Superintendent and Engineering Managers.
• Prepare technical advice, analyses and reports for the Board and ensure optimal use of road funds.
• Administer engineering services, maintenance activities and related fund management.
• Oversee annual and 6-year transportation improvement plans and capital projects.
