Wastewater Plant Operator, $7,500 hiring bonus for Licensed Operators

Position Title: Wastewater Operator, A, B, C, D License or Trainee

Department: Public Works – Water/Wastewater

Reports to: Lead Wastewater Operator – ORC, indirectly reports to Utility Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hiring Bonus for Licensed Operators: $3,750 paid in first paycheck and $3,750 paid at 6-month anniversary, based on performance.

Pre-Hire Requirements: Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and be insurable under Town standards. Must live within forty-five (45) miles from Town of Eagle Wastewater Facility located at 185 Violet Ln, Eagle, Colorado. Total travel time should not exceed sixty (60) minutes at posted driving speeds. This position requires passing of a motor vehicle and a criminal background check.

Job Summary: The Wastewater Operator is an integral part of the operations and maintenance of the treatment facility and is responsible for the effective treatment of water before it is returned to the Eagle River. Wastewater operators operate valves, motors, perform water quality sampling and analysis, and perform light troubleshooting of mechanical equipment. The operator is primarily assigned tasks for the wastewater plant and seasonal collection system work. The individual performs extensive field work and manual maintenance work in the operations of the wastewater system including heavy physical, manual administrative and skilled work. Working as a part of a small integrated water and wastewater utility team, operators may have the opportunity to accrue both water and wastewater experience as workload, background experience, and training allows. This position may also perform a variety of routine and special activities for maintenance within the Public Works Department as conditions warrant.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record required.
• Minimum of a Colorado D Wastewater license or ability to obtain within 6 months of date of hire.
• Prefers Colorado Collection I or II License, or ability to obtain Collection I within 6 months of date of hire, and Collection II within 18 months of hire.
• Interest in obtaining additional Water licenses.
• Experience with wastewater treatment plants helpful.
• Ability to work overtime, holidays, and rotating weekends on call. Able to respond to On Call requests in a reasonable time.

Hiring Range, Education, Training and Certifications: Placement in the Water Operator position is at the discretion of management and is based on organizational needs and qualifications. There are five levels of Water Operator (A, B, C, D and Trainee) with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The following serves as a general framework of the minimum requirements for placement at each level:

WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR A Hiring Range: $33.46 - $41.82 / hourly plus $7,500 hiring bonus.The pay range maximum is $50.19 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Wastewater Operator A placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class A Wastewater Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 4 years related experience or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR B Hiring Range: $31.65 - $37.98/ hourly plus $7,500 hiring bonus.The pay range maximum is $44.31 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Wastewater Operator B placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class B Wastewater Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 3 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR C Hiring Range: $26.84 - $32.21/ hourly plus $7,500 hiring bonus.The pay range maximum is $38.65 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Wastewater Operator C placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class C Wastewater Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 2 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATORS A, B, & C: Colorado Class III Collection System Certification must be obtained within a period determined by management.

WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR D Hiring Range: $23.63 – $28.36/ hourly plus $7,500 hiring bonus.The pay range maximum is $33.09 hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Wastewater Operator D placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class D Wastewater Operators Certification. D-License requires passing of CO state exam. Prefer a minimum of 6 months to 1-year related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WASTEWATER OPERATOR IN TRAINING Hiring Range: $23.63 – $28.36/ hourly. High School Diploma or GED. Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with coworkers. Trains on wastewater activities, including SCADA monitoring, safety, water quality sampling and monitoring techniques, lab analysis, instrument verification and calibration, monitoring and maintaining equipment. Ability to receive D-License within 6 months of hire date.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a fulltime position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Fridays we attempt to work a half day with potential for other hours to support events. Must be available for “On Call” during non-regular scheduled hours including evenings and weekends.
