Job summary

The City of Jacksonville Beach is seeking a semi-skilled Utility Service Worker to perform a variety of field tasks in the maintenance of public utilities and related systems. The role involves physical outdoor work, operating a range of construction equipment, and supporting water, sewer, and stormwater projects.

A valid Florida driver's license is required, and candidates must obtain a Class B CDL within six months of employment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in installation, maintenance, and repair of public utilities and infrastructure.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy and light equipment used in street, water, sewer, and stormwater work.
• Familiarity with safety procedures and protective equipment in a field setting.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs, and maintains public utility systems and infrastructure (streets, water, sewer, stormwater).
• Locates lines and main service lines for contractors and other utilities.
• Builds manholes and structures using brick or prefabricated concrete.
• Maintains rights of way, streets, parks, and performs related restoration work.
• Operates trucks, backhoes, tapping machines, mowers, and other construction equipment.
• Inspects tools and equipment for safety and proper operation.
• Performs meter work and water system valve maintenance as required.
• Digs trenches and conducts surface maintenance and debris removal.
• Performs traffic control duties including detours, barricades, and signs.
• Works rotating standby schedule as assigned.
