Job summary

The City of Jacksonville Beach is seeking a proven civil engineer with supervisory experience to oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of streets, water, and sanitary systems. You will lead teams, manage contracts, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements in a municipal setting.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in public works, plan review, and project coordination, with the ability to supervise staff and coordinate permits for system expansion.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by courses in civil engineering.
• Seven years of experience in the construction, operation, and maintenance of public works transportation, distribution and collection systems, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
• A college degree in civil engineering or related field is preferred and may substitute for up to four years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of streets and sidewalks transportation systems.
• Oversees sanitation contracts and beach maintenance; manages service contracts.
• Ensures that systems and operations comply with regulatory agency requirements; prepares and maintains records.
• Schedules maintenance, construction, and repair projects for crews; ensures crews have sufficient equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Inspects the condition of streets, sidewalks, easements, and related infrastructure; determines the need for repairs, improvements, or expansions.
• Develops and coordinates scope, design, and permits for repair projects and system expansion.
• Assists with the review of site plans, building plans, and development plans to ensure they meet City’s specifications and to determine appropriate water and sewer fees.
