Job summary

The City of Evanston is seeking a Skate Guard for Robert Crown Community Center to help ensure a safe and enjoyable public skating experience. This hourly position supports staff, guards on duty, and instructors during sessions with a focus on safety and positive patron interaction.

The role requires skating proficiency, teamwork, and basic first aid readiness, with a pay rate of $15 per hour and in-person work at the facility.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years old.
• Ability to ice skate forward and backward, stop effectively, and perform forward crossovers.
• Ability to work as a team and interact positively with patrons on the ice.
• Provide first aid assistance and complete a first aid report.
• Knowledge of basic computer programs, including Email and Word.

Responsibilities

• Set up cones and check the ice surface for skating hazards, debris, and close bench doors.
• Ensure the safety of all patrons while on the ice.
• Ensure all participants follow Public Skating rules.
• Actively move throughout the public skate area (perimeter of the rink).
• Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the Public Skate session.
• Provide additional facility information to the public if requested.
• Proper ice rink attire; no hats or earbuds while skating.
• Return rentals skates and skating aids after sessions.
• Clean up the main lobby area after public sessions.
• Perform other related work as assigned.
