Job summary

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library is seeking a Public Service Librarian to join our Community Engagement Division. This full-time role focuses on connecting people with information, programs, and resources to strengthen our community.

You will deliver direct public service, develop programs, lead outreach, and support collection development while upholding professional ethics and providing exceptional patron service.

Qualifications

• MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
• Prior experience in a similar public service role.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to all library locations as needed.
• Experience working with the desired age group(s).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct public service, including circulation, general and advanced reference, readers' advisory, and technology assistance.
• Develop, prepare, and present programs tailored to the needs and interests of designated age group(s).
• Instruct the public in the use of library materials and equipment.
• Identify, coordinate, and book external experts and presenters for engaging programs and educational events.
• Create displays and bulletin boards.
• Present library services and programs to individuals and groups.
• Participate in outreach activities as assigned.
• Stay current on programming best practices and trends.
• Maintain the physical appearance of the location.
• Maintain accurate library records and statistics.

Warren-Trumbull County Public Library is seeking an engaging, service-oriented Public Service Librarian to join our Community Engagement Division. This is a full-time opportunity for someone passionate about connecting people with information, programs, and resources that strengthen our community.

Position Summary

The Public Service Librarian provides direct public service — including circulation, reference, programming, collection development, outreach, and readers' advisory — to customers of all backgrounds and ages.

What You'll Do

Public Service

• Provide direct service to the public, including circulation, general and advanced reference, readers' advisory, and technology assistance

Programming & Outreach

• Develop, prepare, and present programs tailored to the needs and interests of designated age group(s)
• Instruct the public in the use of library materials and equipment
• Identify, coordinate, and book external experts and presenters for engaging programs and educational events
• Create displays and bulletin boards
• Present library services and programs to individuals and groups
• Participate in outreach activities as assigned
• Stay current on programming best practices and trends

Library Operations

• Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and direct calls
• Assist in opening and closing service points and/or the building
• Count money and balance a cash drawer
• Apply and enforce library policies
• Maintain the physical appearance of the location
• Maintain accurate library records and statistics
• May serve as a key point of escalation in the absence of a library or division manager

Collection Development

• Manage a designated area of the Library's collection — monitoring needs, selecting age-appropriate materials, and leading collection maintenance and evaluation

Professional Ethics & Development

• Maintain confidentiality of library user transactions and records
• Uphold the ALA Code of Ethics, including user privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual freedom
• Participate in ongoing professional development; may serve on library committees

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program
• Prior experience in a similar public service role

• Experience working in a public library
• Experience creating and facilitating age-appropriate library programming and outreach

Compensation

• Starting salary: $22.12/hour
