Job summary

Galveston County Tax Office is seeking a detail-oriented tax and motor vehicle clerk to provide efficient customer service at branch locations. You will process transactions, collect funds, and manage documents per Texas codes and RTS policies.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of customer service experience, and strong math and cash-handling skills. You will handle disclosures, plates, and various permits in a fast-paced public environment.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Requires one year of experience providing customer service in an office environment.
• Must communicate clearly and concisely.
• Must complete a minimum level of Fraud Training.
• Strong cash-handling skills required, along with accurate mathematical skills.
• Must complete modules through the web-based RTS Vehicle Learning Management Division.
• Fast-paced environment, quite often dealing with irate people and confidential information.
• This position has frequent contact with the general public. The decisions made and information provided to the public may involve legal implications if incorrectly provided.
• Responsible for the accuracy of documents provided in execution of duties.

Responsibilities

• Issue motor vehicle license plates and registrations in conformance with applicable codes and policies.
• Process timed/temporary permits (30/72/144 hour) per RTS Manual and policies.
• Review and process disability placards and specialty plates per Texas codes and policies.
• Collect current and delinquent ad valorem taxes in person and by mail.
• Gain proficiency and stay current with Texas Transportation Code and related regulations.
• Update vehicle records and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Assist customers by mail, telephone, and in person to determine proper data to process transactions.
• Ensure that all forms are up to date and stocked.
