Job summary

The Port of Skagit is seeking a Staff Accountant – Payroll & Accounting Operations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of payroll activity, accounting records, and operations. This role partners with the Senior Accountant to support payroll processing, accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and audit-ready documentation, within a public-sector environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in accounting/finance or related field.
• Five+ years in accounting, payroll accounting, or related finance experience.

Responsibilities

• Execute payroll accounting processes with supervisor approvals and deadlines.
• Reconcile payroll, benefit, retirement, deduction, and leave-related activity with source records and GL.
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations for review.
• Maintain accurate employee master data and payroll records in BambooHR.
• Ensure compliance and strong internal controls with complete documentation.
• Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and audit readiness.
