Job summary

The Port of Skagit is seeking a Staff Accountant - Payroll & Accounting Operations to ensure accurate payroll processing, precise accounting records, and strong internal controls. This role collaborates with the Senior Accountant and finance staff to deliver audit-ready documentation and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Five (5) or more years of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll accounting, employee operations, or related finance experience.
• Experience with payroll coordination, benefit reconciliations, employee records, onboarding workflows, or employee-facing finance programs.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll accounting, including inputs, approvals, and calendar deadlines.
• Reconcile payroll, benefits, retirement, deductions, and leave-related activity with source records and GL accounts.
• Prepare or support payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules for review.
• Maintain employee master data and payroll source records in BambooHR and related systems.
• Support continuous improvement of payroll and accounting processes and documentation.
