Job summary

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor is seeking a Data Science Intern to gain hands-on experience on the Data Science Team in Raleigh. You will work on projects applying statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization to real-world regulatory and audit objectives.

As a current graduate student in Data Science or related field, you will use SQL, Python and data packages (Pandas, NumPy) to plan analyses, communicate findings, and support data-driven recommendations for

Qualifications

Current graduate student pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Experience with SQL, Python, and data-based Python packages (Pandas and NumPy).
Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into data analysis processes preferred but not required.
Experience conducting research using data (data-based thesis or as a research assistant) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Work on projects leveraging statistical modeling, ML and data visualization.
Assist in planning and executing analyses addressing regulatory, audit objectives, or initiatives.
Prepare internal reports to clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
Apply data-driven approaches to solve real-world challenges and support outcomes.
