Job summary

The City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania is seeking personnel to provide civilian support to uniformed Police Officers and the public, perform prisoner custody and security duties, and operate computer systems for record-keeping.

Responsibilities include searches, transporting prisoners, directing traffic, responding to emergencies, and maintaining accurate records. A PA driver's license and English proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License required.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook or Lotus Notes required.
• Data entry and retrieval ability required.
• Ability to operate office equipment (fax, copier, stapler, hole punch) required.
• Ability to process prisoners using photography and fingerprint equipment required.
• Must read, write, speak and comprehend English.
• Ability to operate a vehicle on private and public streets.
• Ability to work in stressful situations and maintain professional demeanor.
• Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with others.

Responsibilities

• Provides civilian support to uniformed Police Officers and other police personnel and the public at the Police Station and in the field.
• Searches for contraband and ensures prisoner security; supervises prisoners in jail sections.
• Performs pat and strip searches and transfers prisoners by walking or escorting.
• Directs vehicle and pedestrian traffic as needed.
• Responds to emergencies, administers first aid, and moves injured individuals to safety.
• Maintains prisoner records and prepares reports; uses computer systems to query data and enter records.
• Communicates via telephone and police radio with the public and other agencies.
• Cleans jail cells and checks for contraband.
• Operates warrants in computerized systems and maintains related files.
