Job summary

The City of Hopewell seeks a Protective Services EMT to provide emergency medical services on an ambulance and support exterior fire suppression. You will participate in prevention, inspections, and public safety education while working under moderate supervision.

Requirements include EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic certification, Firefighter I and HazMat ops preferred, and a Virginia driver’s license with clean record. Ability to handle physical and emotional stress is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Virginia or National Registry EMT Intermediate or Paramedic certification upon hire.
• Firefighter I and HazMat Operations preferred upon hire, required within one year of hire.
• Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia with zero or plus points.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls and provides EMS on an ambulance with basic and advanced life support.
• Assists with non-interior fire suppression and supports exterior firefighting/rescues.
• Performs inspections, prevention, and public safety education services.
• Drives and operates medical apparatus and maintains emergency vehicles.
• Performs station duties and public safety activities as needed.
• Conducts emergency pre-planning, hazard awareness, and incident response activities.
