Job summary

York County, VA seeks a skilled Firefighter/EMT to perform emergency response, firefighting, pre-hospital care and technical rescue operations, including hazardous materials response and public safety education. The position requires physical endurance and the ability to work under stressful conditions.

The role includes training, equipment checks, scene assessment, incident reporting, and coordination with other responders.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED; supplemented by fire fighting and emergency medical technician training.
• Preferred Fire Recruit School completion or equivalent; paramedic certification advantageous.
• Current Basic Life Support/CPR and EMT certification preferred; Virginia license required as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Respond to firefighting, medical, rescue, and hazardous materials incidents as part of the emergency response team.
• Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care and transport the sick and injured to medical facilities.
• Perform scene safety, patient assessment, treatment, and documentation; operate equipment and communicate with responders.
• Participate in training; maintain apparatus, equipment, and station cleanliness; assist with public education and prevention efforts.
• Prepare incident reports and maintain records; comply with department policies and safety protocols.
