Job summary

York County seeks a trained firefighter/EMT to perform firefighting, emergency medical care, rescue operations, and hazardous materials response. The role includes public safety education, patient transport, and incident command support.

The incumbent will train in emergency response methods, maintain equipment, and work across indoor and outdoor settings. Valid Virginia driver’s license and NFPA standards compliance are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with firefighter/EMT training or equivalent experience.
• Must meet NFPA 1582 standards and be able to operate firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Preferred: Virginia EMT-Paramedic certification or NR certification; CPR cert required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and hazardous materials incidents.
• Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care and patient transport.
• Conduct public fire safety education and community injury-prevention programs.
• Inspect, maintain, and operate assigned firefighting and rescue apparatus and equipment.
• Communicate effectively with teams, hospital staff, and communications centers.
