Job summary

Ohio Department of Public Safety – Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center is seeking a Public Safety Intelligence Analyst to support investigations through data extraction, alerting and reporting. You will produce intelligence products, coordinate with federal, state and local partners, and present briefings to enhance public safety decisions.

Qualifications

  • 36 months of experience conducting research and writing reports using analytical techniques.
  • Or completion of an undergraduate core program in homeland security, political science, criminal justice, emergency management, public health, international affairs or related field and 12 months of related experience.
  • Equivalent to the minimum qualifications for employment as described.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyze databases, spreadsheets and reports for clear information exchange.
  • Prepare intelligence reports, products and briefings for public safety partners.
  • Maintain exchanges between federal, state and local law enforcement and task forces.
  • Coordinate research with departmental units and outside agencies.
  • Gather locally generated information on time-sensitive threats.

What You'll Do as a Public Safety Intelligence Analyst
  • Identify & analyze informational databases, spreadsheets & reports allowing information to be easily exchanged & understood;
  • Prepare intelligence reports, products & briefings for presentation to all public safety partners;
  • Maintain association with & facilitates exchange of information between federal, state & local law enforcement agencies & taskforces for disposition of criminal activity &/or intelligence information on criminal activity (e.g., narcotic trafficking, illegal dark web activity);
  • Coordinate research activities with other departmental unites &/or outside agencies;
  • Gather locally generated information (e.g., criminal activity, suspicious activity reporting) based on time sensitive & emerging threats;

Qualifications

OPTION 1: 36 mos. exp conducting research & writing reports using operational, mathematical, analytical &/or statistical research techniques.

OPTION 2:-Or completion of undergraduate core program in homeland security, political science, criminal justice, emergency management, public health, international affairs or related field; AND 12 mos. exp. conducting research & writing reports using operational, mathematical, analytical &/or statistical research techniques.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a commercial cryptocurrency training OR certification in a cryptocurrency tracing tool(s).

Supplemental Information

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT: If required, must obtain LEADS certification; must renew LEADS certification biannually. Additionally, some positions at Department of Public Security must be able to obtain & maintain secret level federal security clearance.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May require some travel. Working hours will include nights, weekends and holidays, based on operational need.

Position also requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Secret level Security Clearance.

Requires valid driver's license to operate state-owned vehicle or must be able to provide own transportation.

Background Check Information: A BCI and FBI fingerprint check, a background check, including a polygraph examination, may be required on all selected applicants. A comparative analysis and/or drug-test may be a requirement of the hiring process. This position is identified as safety sensitive & subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with DPS 501.24
