Job summary

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker 2 to perform maintenance, installation and repair of electrical and plumbing equipment, carpentry work on buildings and equipment, and general grounds maintenance. The role includes operating state vehicles and performing custodial duties in a large public safety facility.

The position requires basic arithmetic, English communication, and a valid driver license.

Qualifications

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance, replacement, installation & repair of electrical and plumbing equipment.
  • Performs carpentry work involving maintenance, alteration & /or repair of buildings, equipment & wood structures.
  • Performs basic painting.
  • Operates state vehicle to transport various equipment, tools, parts, materials & supplies to various locations throughout the state or to transport vehicle to dealership for service or repair.
  • Performs minor custodial duties.
  • Performs general exterior grounds keeping duties.
  • Performs minor maintenance on Division vehicles.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary;

AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work(e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment);

AND Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS May work evening shift; may be exposed to high & low temperatures; may be exposed to weather.

This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). This position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.
