The Office of Homeland Security is seeking qualified applicants to fill Public Safety Emergency Dispatcher I/II positions, Grade P16/P18, in the Public Safety Communications (PSC) Division for upcoming 2025 training classes. This role is critical in maintaining and supporting public safety. Public Safety Emergency Dispatcher I incumbents must work under pressure in a secured, windowless environment with specialized low-light systems, monitoring computer screens and entering data. Candidates should be able to perform reaching, fingering, grasping, hearing, seeing, typing, and repetitive motions. Vision abilities include close vision and focus adjustment; ability to read standard text and display screens. Work may require prolonged focus on a computer screen.
All personnel must work on site; telework or remote work are not available for this position.
The Office of Homeland Security (OHS), established in 2003, consolidates critical emergency response entities, including Public Safety Communications (PSC) and Emergency Management Division (EM). The agency's mission is to support public safety through coordinated emergency response and communication services.
This position is essential; incumbents must be willing to participate during emergencies and work rotating shifts of 10-12 hours.
Work locations include Bowie and Landover, MD. Candidates must meet various training, certification, background, and physical requirements, including passing exams and background checks. They must also be willing to serve as essential employees during emergencies.
