Job summary

The City of Lancaster Police Department seeks a dedicated Police Dispatcher I to dispatch police, fire, and medical personnel and support emergency and non-emergency operations. It requires a minimum of two years of POST-certified dispatch experience and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, proficiency with dispatch software, and the ability to manage high-stress situations with independence and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor’s degree preferred).
• Minimum of two (2) years of continuous dispatcher experience with a POST-certified law enforcement agency.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to handle high-stress situations calmly and efficiently.
• Proficient computer skills and the ability to learn and use specialized dispatch software.
• Must pass the LPD Dispatcher test and comprehensive background check.

Responsibilities

• Receives and processes emergency, non-emergency, and transferred calls for service; dispatches appropriate personnel and resources.
• Operates radio, CAD, and telephone systems to receive and transmit calls.
• Evaluates and prioritizes information to determine units to send to incidents.
• Maintains radio contact and notifies departments of needed support services.
• Collaborates with emergency service agencies to facilitate efficient response operations.
