Job summary

Qualifications

• Knowledge of police, fire and emergency medical services dispatch procedures.
• Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
• Ability to comprehend or learn departmental practices, rules and regulations.
• Ability to operate telephones, teletype, two-way radio and other specialized computer communications equipment.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely and understand radio messages and signals.
• Ability to think and react quickly and effectively to tense or emergency situations.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to recall details from numerous informational resources.
• Ability to prioritize decisions based upon multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policy and procedures.
• Ability to type at 35 net words per minute.
• Ability to read maps.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime.
• Ability to work with other under stressful conditions.
• Ability to use professional customer service skills with public and user agencies

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls using E-911 computerized equipment.
• Maintain activity status records and assign units based on incident criteria.
• Relay information and act as liaison between officials and the public.
• Operate radio transmitters and data processing equipment per FCC rules.
• Dispatch and communicate with field units via computer.
• Participate in training and staff meetings.
• Record information accurately and maintain records of activity.
• Testify at adjudication hearings when necessary.
• Perform related work as required.
