Job summary

Houston County 911 Center is seeking a Communications System Manager to provide technical guidance for the County’s 800 MHz Digital Trunked Radio System across Public Safety agencies. The role oversees installation, maintenance, asset management, and vendor coordination to keep emergency communications reliable.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of experience in networks or radio systems, with P25 and VESTA certifications preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any of the following fields or related: computer network management, communications, electrical engineering.
  • Five years of work experience maintaining computer networks and/or radio systems, preferably in public safety.
  • Certifications: P25 Radio Systems and VESTA Call Handling System.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate acquisition, installation, and maintenance of the 800 MHz Digital Trunked Radio System with vendors and agency personnel.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Public Safety agencies to ensure reliable emergency radio and data communications.
  • Perform asset management/inventory of infrastructure and subscriber equipment; maintain spreadsheet of Motorola equipment.
  • Modify systems by installing software upgrades and programming fleet mapping templates in subscriber units.
  • Provide performance reports on system usage to agencies and county personnel.
  • Train users on operation, usage, and care of equipment; produce training materials as needed.
  • Maintain on-site records for acquisition, leases, site maintenance and compliance reporting.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair performed by vendor representatives.
  • Perform related duties as required.
