Job summary

The City of Dallas seeks a Supervisor-Public Safety Communications to oversee, plan, direct and execute work for a mid-to-large unit within the Police Department. This role supervises complex clerical/administrative and technical functions providing services to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities include supervising call-taking, evaluating methods, coordinating interviews and onboarding, managing open records, payroll tasks, and establishing professional communications standards

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five (5) years of experience in a public safety emergency call taking and/or dispatching position.
• One (1) year of leadwork/supervisory responsibilities.
• Associate degree (or higher) plus three (3) years of specified experience including one (1) year of leadwork/supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Must be able to obtain TCOLE and TCIC/NCIC certifications within probationary period.
• Must pass an intensive background check including polygraph and drug screen.
• No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions; no Class B misdemeanors in last 10 years.
• Must be available for various shifts including nights, weekends and holidays; 24/7 call out.
• MS Office skills preferred; current TCOLE/TCIC/NCIC certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and participates in call center activities; ensures customer service and information delivery quality.
• Evaluates call taking and communications methods; implements updates for effectiveness.
• Supervises recruitment for the department and liaises with Civil Service for staffing needs.
• Responds to vacancy openings and screens applicants who pass Civil Service.
• Coordinates interview panels, paperwork, and onboarding letters.
• Oversees open records; handles requests and coordinates with other agencies.
• Performs payroll related work; approves leave and overtime, audits employee cards.
• Develops consistent communications standards across the department.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
