Job summary

University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a Communications Specialist Supervisor - Police to supervise the Communications Specialists within the Police Operations division. You will oversee daily operations, ensure policy compliance, and coordinate training and performance reviews while maintaining critical alarm and radio systems.

The role requires a strong background in public safety communications, APCO certifications, and a valid driver’s license, with duties spanning shift supervision

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three years of experience as a Public Safety Telecommunicator; relevant education may substitute.
• Must obtain APCO Communications Training Officer Certification within 180 days of hire.
• Valid NCIC Full Access Certification.
• Valid APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 Certification.
• Valid Driver’s License with possible out-of-state license requirement within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, supervises, and evaluates activities and performance of Communications Specialists.
• Implements shift-based and departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
• Provides training opportunities to shift members.
• Conducts regular reviews of calls for service.
• Ensures compliance with KBI directives and paperwork.
• Issues disciplinary action as needed.
• Maintains certifications and equipment/databases.
