Job description

At Mauloa, the Public Relations Specialist leads our firm’s external narrative, serving as the primary driver of our visibility in the private equity and family business sectors. Unlike traditional PE roles focused on transactional announcements or quick exits, this position is dedicated to storytelling that highlights Mauloa’s unique "endless" investment philosophy—minority stakes, no debt, and no forced exit timelines.

You will act as both a strategist and an operator, leveraging deep media relationships to secure high-impact coverage in top-tier financial news, niche industry trades, and influential podcasts. Your job is to position Mauloa as the partner of choice for family-owned businesses by showcasing our leadership’s expertise and our "people-first" culture. You will manage the full lifecycle of media engagement: from crafting pitches and prepping spokespeople to securing speaking slots at key industry events and amplifying our wins across digital channels.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role is defined by the quality of the relationships you possess and build, along with the tangible increase in Mauloa’s market presence. You will know you are winning when:

  • Media Penetration & Thought Leadership: Mauloa’s leadership is regularly featured or quoted in Tier-1 business outlets (WSJ, Forbes, Fortune) and key trade publications as a contrarian voice in private equity.
  • You consistently secure 2–3 high-value podcast interviews or speaking engagements per quarter that align with our target audience of business owners.
  • Business owners or their trusted advisors (lawyers, attorneys cite "I heard you on [Podcast]" or "I read about you in [Publication]" as a reason for taking the initial meeting).
  • Inbound inquiries from prospective portfolio companies increase due to heightened brand awareness.
Narrative Ownership

The market clearly understands Mauloa’s differentiation (no debt, minority stakes). You have successfully shifted the narrative away from "private equity" stereotypes to "symbiotic long-term partnership."

Operational Excellence

A robust calendar of industry events is maintained, ensuring Mauloa is visible at the right conferences (e.g., family business summits, YPO events) rather than just general finance gatherings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Media Relations: Act as the primary liaison with journalists and other media specialists, write press releases, coordinate interviews for executives, and secure earned media coverage in financial publications.
  • Content Creation & Digital Presence: Create targeted collateral, including articles, blogs, and social media posts, to manage the firm's online reputation and amplify its brand communications.
  • Reputation Management & Strategy: Formulate and implement comprehensive PR strategies to enhance the firm's visibility, build trust, and position executives as thought leaders.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional writing and speaking abilities are crucial for drafting clear messages and representing the firm publicly.
  • Strategic Thinking & Problem-Solving: The ability to make sound decisions quickly, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to a fast-paced environment is vital.
  • Interpersonal & Relationship Building Skills: PR specialists must foster strong relationships with a wide range of people, from journalists and executives to investors.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, finance, or a related field is preferred but not necessary.
Compensation
  • Monthly retainer plus performance bonuses for secured coverage, podcast appearances, and speaking engagements.
