West Virginia Department of Tourism seeks a Director of Public Relations to act as an executive advisor and lead communication strategies for the department. The role requires coordinating messaging, advising leadership, and managing department communications with a focus on brand consistency.

Based in Charleston and full-time, the position emphasizes strong media relations, data-driven reporting, and collaboration with state partners. Remote work is not permitted, and some travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related field.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in public relations; supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office; travel and flexible hours expected.

Responsabilités

• Develops and implements communication strategies
• Coordinates and aligns departmental messaging
• Advises and supports leadership on all communication efforts
• Researches, compiles data, outlines and composes correspondences
• Creates, proofs and prepares all departmental communications
• Organizes, prepares and attends various governmental and executive meetings
• Responds to all media, journalist and content creator inquiries
• Compiles, coordinates and presents reports and information for management and executive team meetings
• Sets goals and meets deadlines for the Department's public communications efforts
• Maintains Departmental brand consistency within all communication efforts
• Oversees public relations section; manages employees and work assignments
